If you are not ready to dive into maternity clothes but your belly is starting to pop out, don’t panic. There are a heap of clever products available to help extend your regular wardrobe as your tummy expands.

  • Belly extenders button into pants, shorts and skirts to give a few extra inches around the waist and can be very useful in the early stages of your pregnancy
  • Bra backstrap lengtheners clip into your bra and add an extra size or two across the back giving much needed breathing space and comfort as your ribs and bust expand
  • A tummy band is a simple but very effective bump cover. Made from stretch jersey, the tubular band is versatile and can solve a number of fashion issues you may experience as your body changes shape:

1.      wear with a regular top to keep your tummy covered

2.      hold up unbuttoned pants, skirts and shorts

3.      wear for additional support around your tummy and back

4.      use to keep your post partum tummy covered while breastfeeding

5.      wear as a boob tube / camisole under low cut tops

In conjunction to these products, shop for low waisted designs (these will be handy after you have given birth too) and garments with elastic waists in stretch fabrics.

Tunics, raglan sleeves, under bust style tops and dresses,  and longer length regular tops are also good options. A size up from your regular size may work too.

Cross over style and buttoned front tops are great for discreet breastfeeding.

If you are after that perfect fitting, comfortable garment that makes you feel sexy and a beautiful yummy mummy, you might be best taking the plunge into maternity wear: after all, that’s what maternity garments are designed to do!
