If you are lucky enough to be pregnant during the summer, ignore the heat and embrace all that summer brings. If it were only that easy! During pregnancy your body temperature is naturally higher so for some, the hot weather can mean added discomfort.

Apart from the obvious to stay cool…like keeping out of the hot sun, keeping fluids up and floating in the pool, you can certainly dress to help beat the summer heat.

Natural Fibres -

Fill your summer wardrobe with garments that are made from natural fibres. Cotton, linen, wool, hemp, bamboo are just some of the natural fabrics available in maternity wear today. The breathable nature of these fabrics makes them cooler to wear than synthetics. Natural fibres also have better absorption and don’t get as smelly when you sweat.

Loose Clothing

Forget showing off your bump in figure hugging pieces. Looser fitting garments that allow the air to circulate will have you feeling cooler and less sticky during the hottest months. A little summer dress is the a great option, but if you are more comfortable in tops and bottoms, skirts, shorts and ¾ pants are cooler than full length pants, and go for sleeveless tops and loose sleeves.

Footwear

Most women experience swelling at some stage during their pregnancy and its often your feet that suffer the most. Open shoes that let the heat escape from your feet are your best bet for summer. Think thongs, sandals and going barefoot.
