During my first pregnancy, I read up on what was happening week to week with my baby, how to prepare for the birth, what products to buy, what to pack for hospital, when to get the baby seat fitted in my car, what to eat and how to best look after myself (and look and feel good in maternity clothes!).

I completely underestimated how breastfeeding would rule the first few weeks after getting home with my baby. Not only was it really painful, it took practise, practise and more practise. Two of us had to learn the ropes. I am sure getting breastfeeding established initially would have been easier if I had been a little more prepared. The first 3 months were very tough. I had grazes, lumps (fortunately no mastitis), lack of sleep and one hungry little bub crying for a feed every 2-3 hours. Early on, that gave me barely enough time to recover between feeds,  let alone heal the wounds!! I have to say though, persistence and assurance from other friends who had breastfed that it would get much easier got me through the feeding the first few months. Every time I had to attach my bub (just the thought would make my feet sweat) I would hold my breath trying to block out the pain. Breastfeeding in public was a no go zone for the first 6 or so weeks. I still cringe thinking about those first few months, what a nightmare! But you know what, after about 8 weeks or so I realised one day that there was no more pain and breastfeeding had become easy and a real joy. Since having another bub (and a lot more knowledge) the breastfeeding experience second time round has been a totally different experience and so, so  much easier.

While breastfeeding my first baby, I set about designing a nursing top to give me the confidence to feed in public, discreetly. I think these days breastfeeding out and about is gaining more acceptance however personally, I was still a little uncomfortable about what parts of me were being exposed for all to see (should have been the least of my worries, but a post partum tummy……??!). Anyway, my concerns resulted in me designing (what I think :-) ) is a fabulous top that all breastfeeding mums will love! Best of all the tops look like a regular top. With a cross over front that can be pulled aside and layer underneath that lifts up, you will never expose your tummy in public and no one will even know you are wearing a nursing top. Be sure to check out our range of breastfeeding tops on our website. Sizes include S, M, L, XL, XXL (Plus Size Maternity) and garments come in a range of colours.
