Maternity Fashion Blog – A one stop blog for everything pregnancy related.
Breastfeeding Tops & Breastfeeding Dresses are designed so you can feed your baby discreetly. Designed with clever layering and panels, you can access your nursing bra easily without exposing your post partum tummy.
Breastfeeding garments are great for your hospital stay, while you are establishing breastfeeding, when visitors pop by and for feeding out and about.
I found breastfeeding really hard. As a first time breastfeeder, I had no idea that it would hurt so much and would take so long for my baby (and I!) to get attachment right. Breastfeeding certainly didn’t come naturally to me and my first bub. Early on I dreaded every feed. They seemed to be so frequent and attachment hurt so much my feet would sweat. To make matters trickier, my baby had a bit of a tongue tie so it would take a number of tries to get the latch right. Each attempt was so painful, and the more goes at getting it right the more pain I was in. I knew though, a bad attachment would cause even worse the pain, so I had to get it right. You have probably gathered learning to breastfeed was a stressful experience for me, so you can imagine how I felt about feeding in front of family and friends!
Thank goodness for breastfeeding tops. At least I could be discreet while I attempted to nurse my baby correctly. Showing off my floppy belly was one less thing I had to worry about!! I found Barefoot Maternitys breastfeeding tees really comfortable and easy to use. They have a pull down crossover with a layer underneath that you lift up. I had some other breastfeeding tops – one had side slits but I found it hard to get to my nursing bra clips and one other top had drop cups but I found it wasn’t supportive enough to wear without a nursing bra. I had a breastfeeding singlet too, it had a shelf type bra but was a bit uncomfortable because the wide elastic seemed to dig in to my skin.
After 3 babies, I have to say the whole feeding experience overall has been wonderful and I am still nursing my youngest. Initially, wow, it is hard and painful and persistance is required. With my first bub, it took around 12 weeks for me to enjoy each feed, second time round about 8 weeks, third time round maybe 6 weeks. If there is any thing I can pass on, read up on breastfeeding and the changes that happen to your breasts after giving birth, get attachment right and look after yourself (eat well, rest up and ask for help).
